St. Joseph’s University”
March 24, 2026 :
Under the initiative of KRYC’s R.E.A.D.Y Programme, the YCS/YSM Regional Team visited St. Joseph’s University for a half-day awareness session on substance use and the challenges faced by youth. The university warmly welcomed the young leaders, offering gracious hospitality and a well-organized environment for learning and interaction. The visit began with a fellowship meal, setting a tone of openness and community for the sessions that followed.
The first session addressed the critical issue of substance use and its impact on the developing brain. It was led by subject experts Dr. Nisha Menzies Rao, Head of the Department and Assistant Professor, Department of Psychology and Counselling, and Mr. Ebenezer Sam, Assistant Professor, Department of Management. The facilitators provided a comprehensive understanding of addiction, highlighting the challenges faced by today’s youth and the psychological triggers involved. The session was highly interactive, focusing on practical strategies for prevention and effective ways to support individuals in recovery. It equipped the regional leaders with valuable knowledge to address such concerns within their local units and communities.
The second session featured an inspiring address by Rev. Dr. Victor Lobo SJ, Vice Chancellor of the university. It was a privilege for the team to interact with such a distinguished academic leader. In his address, Fr. Victor presented the vision and mission of the university and delivered a motivating message on the importance of staying focused on long-term goals despite challenges and external pressures. The session concluded with an engaging Q&A interaction, during which he addressed the aspirations and concerns of the youth, encouraging them to become conscious and responsible leaders of the future.
Rev Fr Ashwin Cardoza, Regional Youth Director, along with the Regional President and Secretary, honored and felicitated the Vice Chancellor in appreciation of his support and encouragement towards youth ministry. On behalf of the YCS/YSM movement, Alister, the Regional President, expressed heartfelt gratitude to Rev. Dr. Victor Lobo, SJ, for his time and for providing a platform that fostered both intellectual and personal growth.
The visit to St. Joseph’s University was a meaningful academic and moral enrichment for the young leaders, strengthening their awareness, deepening their leadership vision, and inspiring them to serve society with responsibility and purpose.
Also present on the occasion were Rev Fr Steevan Fernandes, DYD Representative, and Sr Lenita Lobo, Regional Lady Animator, who accompanied the young leaders.
